Minutes of the Last Meeting

Friends of the Lebanon-Laclede County Library

Minutes, Jan. 17, 2012

President Jasper  Randazzo called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. Officers attending were the president, Vice President George Johnson and Treasurer Robin Johnson. Secretary Patti Light was absent.

The proposed agenda was approved by acclamation. Minutes of the Dec. 19 meeting were approved by acclamation.

Robin’s  treasurer’s report showed the club has $243.76 in the checking account and $1,763.06 in savings. There being no corrections, the treasurer’s report was filed for audit.

Robin introduced new member Rhonda Plassmeyer.

Under old business, Judy Wallmark offered revisions to the bylaws changing officers’ terms from one year to two years, which had previously been proposed. Judy noted that she deleted references to an annual meeting, as the Friends meet monthly, and changed references to the annual election to biannual. Copies of the revised bylaws were available. There being no further discussion, Jasper called for a vote, and the revisions were adopted unanimously.

Volunteers are needed for the Dr. Seuss celebration March 1, 5:30-7:30 p.m., and for the Scholastic Book Fair the week of Feb. 27. Signup sheets were circulated.

A postponed discussion about forming a membership committee was brief, as members noted we have several new members. If Cathy Dame, library director, brings a list of additional areas where Friends could help, then a membership drive may be reconsidered.

George Johnson agreed to be book sale chairman. Sorting will resume Thursday evenings, and at other times as members wish, because many paperbacks need to be sorted for the March 17 “Second Chance” sale. Some members agreed to move accumulated donations onto the pile of unsorted books after tonight’s meeting.

Under Reports, Jasper, speaking for Cathy, said the library has bought 14 new public computers. The blood drive will be held in August. The library will reproduce bookmarks or flyers for our March sale.

Speaking for the Foundation, Jasper said the library would like to convert a room adjacent to the café into a conference room, but the cost is estimated at $35,000. The Foundation is seeking a major donor, who would have naming rights. The café will become a Route 66 gift shop. Mark Spangler is renovating the space. The Foundation has authorized payment of $1,000 for a TV that can play videos being offered for sale in the gift shop.

For Laclede Literacy Council, Sandy Musice said she will bring $10 recipe books for sale at the  next meeting. She also reminded that the council’s corned beef and cabbage dinner will be the evening of March 17 at First Christian Church.

For Route 66 Society, Judy said the Route 66 Festival will begin June 8 with a drive-in movie. On June 9, a parade of vintage vehicles will begin at Munger Moss Motel and proceed on Route 66 (Elm Street) to B&D Truck Stop. After the parade, city officials will cut the ribbon on the Elm Street improvements. Then the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce will commence its new “Our Town, Your Town” celebration, replacing Hillbilly Days.

Historian Roberta Page has completed 84 pages in the newest album.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, Feb. 21, moved because of the federal holiday on Monday. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Katie Hilton (for Patti Light)
